Dr. Wayne B. Powell took office as interim dean for the Arkansas Tech University College of Engineering and Applied Sciences on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
He will provide short-term leadership for the college while ATU simultaneously conducts a search for a permanent dean.
Powell was president at Lenoir-Rhyne University (N.C.) from 2002 until the time of his retirement in 2016. He has additional experience as a mathematics faculty member and dean of the graduate college at Oklahoma State University as well as vice president and dean for academic affairs at Lenoir-Rhyne. He has also served on the faculty at the University of Kansas.
As a student, Powell completed a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics at Texas Lutheran University, received a Master of Science degree in mathematics with a minor in computer science from Texas A&M University and earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in mathematics from Tulane University (La.).
The ATU College of Engineering and Applied Sciences includes departments in agriculture, computer and information science, emergency management, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and parks, recreation and hospitality administration.
