The call was placed, and once again the Arkansas Tech University community was there to answer.
All 101 Salvation Army Angel Tree children available for sponsorship through the ATU Collegiate Panhellenic Council have been sponsored and will see their holiday gift requests fulfilled.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that the ATU Collegiate Panhellenic Council has partnered with the Salvation Army location in Russellville for the benefit of the Angel Tree program.
“I reached out to Salvation Army and asked what more we could do for them since we still had a large number of people interested in helping out this holiday season,” said Samantha Rendon, president of the ATU Collegiate Panhellenic Council. “We are now encouraging people to help participate in the Salvation Army toy drive. They can buy toys and clothes for kids of all ages and sizes and then they can bring it during our drop off scheduled for Dec. 4 from 6-8 p.m. or Dec. 5 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., both in Young Ballroom.”
Those wishing to donate to the Salvation Army toy drive are asked to provide new, unwrapped items. Suggested items include:
- Legos
- Arts and Crafts
- Superhero Action Figures
- Dolls and Dollhouses
- Hot Wheels
- Board Games
- Stuffed Animals
- Toys for Babies
- Baseballs
- Footballs
- Soccer balls
- Basketballs
- LOL Toys
- Unicorns
- Slime Kits
- Toy Cars and Trucks
- Clothes
- Coats
- Socks
- Hats and Gloves
- Blankets
“I know, as a Greek community as a whole, we always try to be active in our community,” said Rendon. “We’re always trying to give back, especially during the holiday season. A lot of us are more fortunate than these kids, so it’s an opportunity for us, even as 18, 19 or 20-year old college students, to support the community.”
