There have been almost 40,000 sunrises and sunsets since 186 students and nine faculty members participated in the first day of class at the Second District Agricultural School on Oct. 26, 1910.
Now known as Arkansas Tech University, the institution is set to begin its 110th academic year this month.
Residence hall move-in will commence at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17. Details are available at www.atu.edu/reslife/move-in-day.php.
Tech Connect, the formal orientation program for first-time ATU students, will begin later that day with Freshmen Convocation at Tucker Coliseum.
Freshmen in the College of Engineering and Applied Science and the College of Natural and Health Science will begin checking in for convocation at 2 p.m. ahead of a 2:30 p.m. ceremony.
The second and final convocation of the day is scheduled for 4 p.m. Freshmen in the College of Arts and Humanities, College of Business, College of Education, College of eTech and undeclared students will begin checking in at 3:30 p.m.

Welcome Week 2019 activities for all ATU students will begin on Monday, Aug. 19, with the Involvement Fair. It is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. at The Corners at North El Paso Avenue and West L Street, which is located on the west side of Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field.
One of the most well-attended student events at ATU each year, the Involvement Fair provides opportunities to learn about clubs, organizations, departments, services and community organizations. There will also be free food and $2,500 in door prizes.

The first day of class for the fall 2019 semester at ATU is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 21.
