Twenty nursing students at Arkansas Tech received their nursing pins from friends and family Friday evening during a ceremony in the Doc Bryan Student Services Building Lecture Hall.
Linda Self, assistant professor of nursing, served as the keynote speaker and reminded the nurses to be “courageous and willing to care.” She added, “We often care for those who society would otherwise forget. Being a nurse and caring becomes a part of who you are.”
Several awards were presented during Friday’s ceremony.
Rebecca Posik received the Wilkins Academic Excellence Award, which is given to the student that has maintained the highest grade point average throughout the nursing program.
Zakary Baker was the recipient of the Student Nurse Award. The award is selected by the graduating nurses and given to a student that personifies nursing professionalism.
During the ceremony, the nurses also recognized nurse Janet Wiley with the Outstanding Community Nurse Award. This award is given to an area nurse who exemplifies the nursing role model.
