Nationally 16th-ranked Arkansas Tech matched the second-best start to a season in the 33-year history of its women’s basketball program with an 84-61 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State at Rankin Williams Field House in Weatherford, Okla., on Tuesday afternoon.
The Golden Suns (13-0) led 37-24 at halftime and then put it away with a 30-9 run over the first 8:45 of the second half.
Jenny Vining ledĀ Arkansas Tech with 26 points. Natalia Santos added 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Jessica Weatherford had 10 points.
Natasha Brown paced Southwestern Oklahoma State (0-12) with 16 points.
The Golden Suns will host Southern Arkansas in their Gulf South Conference opener on Saturday. Tip-off at Tucker Coliseum is set for 4 p.m. Tech’s men will host SAU at 6 p.m. Saturday.
