Arkansas Tech University is home to the No. 2-ranked men’s basketball team in all of NCAA Division II following the release of this week’s National Association of Basketball Coaches poll on Tuesday afternoon.
The Wonder Boys (14-0) jumped three spots to earn their highest national ranking ever.

Arkansas Tech was a unanimous selection for the No. 2 spot, while Augusta State (Ga.) received all eight first-place votes and is No. 1 in the country for the first time ever.
It is a once unthinkable perch for a Wonder Boys program that spent most of the last decade at or near the bottom of the Gulf South Conference West Division standings.
Those days are thankfully becoming distant memories for Arkansas Tech. Fourth-year head coach Mark Downey (photographed) has led the Wonder Boys to a 37-9 record since the beginning of the 2008-09 season.
Tech is off to its best start to a men’s basketball season since 1952-53, when the Wonder Boys won their first 24 games before losing to Indiana State in the second round of the 1953 NAIA National Tournament.
Arkansas Tech will put its No. 2 national ranking on the line Thursday night. The Wonder Boys will host Henderson State for a 7:30 p.m. game at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville.
Admission will be free with a valid Tech identification card.
