Arkansas Tech is ranked ninth in this week’s USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II women’s basketball top 25 poll, giving the Golden Suns their highest national ranking in nearly seven years.
The Golden Suns (16-0 overall, 3-0 Gulf South Conference) climbed four spots in the poll after conference wins over Henderson State and Harding last week.
This marks the first time that Arkansas Tech has reached the top 10 of the national women’s poll since Feb. 26, 2008, when it was ranked 10th.
It is the Golden Suns’ highest national ranking since they were listed ninth on March 26, 2003.
Arkansas Tech is off to the best start to a season in the history of its women’s basketball program, and the Golden Suns are tied with nationally second-ranked Delta State for first place in the GSC West Division.
Tech will visit Ouachita Baptist for a 6 p.m. contest at Vining Arena in Arkadelphia on Thursday.
A live broadcast of the game will be available on Russellville radio station KWKK 100.9 FM and www.athletics.atu.edu.
After visiting Arkadelphia, the Golden Suns will return home to host nationally second-ranked Delta State at 4 p.m. Saturday. Admission to Tucker Coliseum will be free with a valid Tech identification card. Tickets will be available at the gate beginning at 3 p.m.
