Nationally top-ranked Arkansas Tech held Christian Brothers without a point for nearly five minutes late in the second half as the Wonder Boys remained undefeated with a 52-46 win over the Buccaneers at Canale Arena in Memphis, Tenn., on Monday night.
The Wonder Boys (19-0 overall, 6-0 Gulf South Conference) held CBU scoreless from the 8:35 mark of the second half until the 3:54 mark.
Tech took advantage of Christian Brothers’ drought, scoring eight unanswered points to open up a 43-34 edge.
James Causey registered a slam dunk on a drive from the left wing with 1:27 left that seemed to take the final breath of air out of the Buccaneers’ sails. His tomahawk slam made it 48-39.
The Wonder Boys steered it home from there to earn their first win in Canale Arena since Jan. 5, 2001.
Tech’s Jeremy Dunbar made his first five field goal tries and finished with 20 points. Causey added 10 points, four rebounds and three steals.
Scott Dennis led CBU (14-6, 4-3) with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Arkansas Tech will visit Southern Arkansas for a 7:30 p.m. contest at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center in Magnolia on Thursday.
