The Miss Arkansas Tech Pageant is tomorrow, but Arkansas Tech students who are competing are getting plenty of pageant practice.
Earlier this week, the students participated in mock interviews to help them prepare for the pageant.
Dr. Jim Collins, pageant executive director, says the practice interviews help put the contestants at ease on the day of the pageant. He adds, “There are always several contestants who have never competed in a pageant before, and having a mock interview helps them to understand what to expect during the interview.”
Collins says the mock interviews are “very close” to the actual interviews.
“I go so far as to give the interviewers the fact sheets the contestants prepare,” adds Collins. “This allows the mock judges to prepare realistic questions that a contestant might be asked during the competition.”
In addition to mock interviews, the contestants will have a rehearsal tonight in the Witherspoon Building Auditorium.
Collins says during tonight’s rehearsal, the contestants will walk through each portion of the pageant, and the contestants will also be able to practice their talent.
The pageant begins tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in the Witherspoon Building Auditorium, and admission is $8 for adults, $3 for children or free for those with a valid Tech identification card.
The winner of the pageant will receive a two-semester tuition scholarship to Arkansas Tech and more than $3,000 in gift certificates and prizes from area businesses. In all, more than $16,000 in gifts and scholarships will be awarded to contestants competing in the pageant.
