Young minds will have the chance to learn more about science this summer during the Community Science Network camps.
Dr. Robin Lasey, assistant professor of chemistry at Arkansas Tech and camp director, says students attending the camps participate in a variety of hands-on activities throughout the week.
The camp runs from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. each day, and this year’s camp will focus on the human body. Camp participants are divided into groups based on age, and each group will participate in age-appropriate activities that relate to the camp theme.
A certified teacher will lead each classroom, and there will also be an aide in each classroom to assist in instruction.
Lasey says students attending the camp leave with a new perspective on science. She adds, “Students who attend science camp learn that science is fun. They also learn to ask questions about how the world around them works.”
The first session is scheduled for July 12-16, and the second session is taking place July 19-23. Both sessions will be held at Pottsville Middle School. The cost to attend each session is $75 per child, which covers the attendance cost and the camp materials.
