Former Arkansas Tech football player Tyler Morton graduated less than a month ago, and he’s now back on the field as the running backs coach and special teams coordinator for the Greene County Tech football team.
Morton played football at Arkansas Tech and believes his collegiate experience will help him succeed in his first coaching position.
He adds, “Everything that I know about fundamentals and scheme comes from my college playing experience. We had a pretty good staff there at Tech.”
Morton says even though he’s competitive and wants to see his athletes win, his first goal is to help the students.
“I’m very competitive,” he said. “But, I’m not so competitive that I’m going to neglect the kids to win. It’s about them first.”
Morton said he believes football is more than just a game and that athletes can learn life lessons from their time on the field. “It teaches you teamwork. It teaches you responsibility, desire and determination,” Morton said. “It teaches you things that you can take into your adult life and have success with in the workplace. That’s what we’re trying to teach these kids more than anything.”
