Arkansas Tech University alumna Lindsay Robinson Beaton has earned the 2010 Arkansas Governor’s Council on Fitness Leadership Award in recognition of her work to forward the field of physical education.

“It is a great honor to be recognized for doing a job I truly love,” said Beaton. “I do the very best I can every day to provide my students with the information they need to create a sound foundation for a healthy and active life. By being honored with such a great award it helps bring validation to my program and to me as a teacher as well.”
A product of Poteau, Okla., Beaton earned her Bachelor of Science degree in health and physical education from Arkansas Tech in 2003. Three years later, she added a Master of Education degree in health and physical education from Tech.
Since 2006, Beaton has worked as the first certified physical education teacher at DeWitt Elementary School.
In order to be nominated for the Arkansas Governor’s Council for Leadership in Fitness Award, a physical educator must be a licensed physical education teacher in Arkansas, have a minimum of five years physical education teaching experience, hold a current professional membership in a national and/or state physical education organization and be an advocate for school and community physical activity instruction and programs that meet the needs of young people.
The Arkansas Governor’s Council on Fitness was created in 1992. According to the organization’s Web site, its mission is to “encourage health and wellness for all individuals in Arkansas by promoting healthy lifestyles through increased levels of physical activity.”
