District V FBLA Meets at Tech

An enthusiastic crowd of 4,000 high school FBLA members gathered at Arkansas Tech’s Tucker Coliseum today for the District V Fall Conference.

After Arkansas Tech University President Dr. Robert C. Brown extended a welcome to the campus, Chief Executive Officer of Tri-Leadership Ryan Underwood delivered a keynote message encouraging students to get involved and take advantage of the opportunities FBLA can provide.

Underwood created opportunities for all those present to get up and get moving. He hosted a thumb war contest, taught some dance moves and challenged students to find the “secret word” he had told a small group of students just before the conference began. Once the students found someone who knew the secret word they were instructed “to take a picture of yourselves with any available device.”

The students also heard messages and updates from the district officers, advisers and representatives from March of Dimes, Arkansas Children’s Hospital and Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Additionally, students compete in Battle of the Chapters where schools select representatives to answer FBLA trivia and find out who has won the Cover Design Awards.

Dr. Linda Bean helped to organize the conference and Dr. Kevin Mason addressed the students regarding the Arkansas Tech College of Business.
