The Golden Suns (1-0) have not lost at home since Feb. 21, 2009. They won their 19th consecutive game at Tucker Coliseum on Sunday when they opened the 2010-11 season with an 80-67 win over St. Gregory’s University.

Jenny Vining (photographed) scored 27 points and Natalia Santos had 24 points in the victory, but Tech allowed St. Gregory’s to shoot 46 percent from the field.

The Suns held opponents below to 35.7 percent shooting from the field during the 2009-10 season.

“We didn’t do a good job of switching from our full-court press to whatever we were going to do in the half-court, be it man-to-man or some type of zone,” said Tech head coach Dave Wilbers. “We did a better job in the second half, but it’s something we have to improve upon. We also had some players out of position defensively, so we’ve watched that on tape and worked on it in practice.”

Arkansas Tech has not faced Rhema since the 2007-08 season, when the two programs played a home-and-home series. The Golden Suns defeated the Eagles 91-24 in Russellville on Nov. 20, 2007, and 113-33 in Broken Arrow, Okla., on Jan. 8, 2008.

After tonight’s game, Tech’s women will be idle until a 4 p.m. contest against Lambuth University at Tucker Coliseum on Saturday, Nov. 20.
