The Department of Nursing at Arkansas Tech will recognize 28 graduating nursing students during a pinning ceremony Friday, Dec. 17.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. in the Doc Bryan Lecture Hall on the Arkansas Tech campus.
As part of the ceremony, each graduating nursing student will be presented a nursing pin by friends and family.
Additionally, several awards will be presented to the senior nursing students. The following award winners will be recognized:
- Student Nurse Award – selected by the graduating nurses and given to a student that personifies nursing professionalism
- Outstanding Community Nurse Award – selected by the graduating class and awarded to a nurse who exemplifies the nursing role model
- St. Mary’s Medical Staff/Wilkins Award for Academic Excellence – given to the student who has maintained academic excellence throughout the nursing program
Pinning ceremonies date back to the Nightingale School of Nursing in London where Florence Nightingale awarded pins to outstanding nurses. The tradition will continue with this year’s graduating class.
