Arkansas Tech University continued its two-year reign as the top overall basketball program in NCAA Division II on Tuesday when both the Golden Suns and the Wonder Boys were ranked among the top 10 teams in the country.
Arkansas Tech is the only NCAA Division II institution among 275 basketball-playing members to be ranked in the top 10 of both the men’s and women’s national top 25 polls for the week of Feb. 22.
The Golden Suns (22-2 overall, 11-1 Gulf South Conference) moved up one spot to No. 4 in the USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II women’s basketball top 25.
Arkansas Tech defeated Delta State 72-62 on Saturday to claim sole possession of first place in the GSC West Division women’s basketball standings. The loss caused the Lady Statesmen to drop from No. 3 to No. 5 in the national poll.
The Wonder Boys (21-3, 12-0) climbed three positions to No. 9 in this week’s National Association of Basketball Coaches NCAA Division II men’s basketball top 25.
Tech’s men earned their 15th consecutive win by defeating Delta State 90-59 on Saturday. Tech has won 25 of its last 26 GSC games and is in sole possession of first place in the GSC West Division men’s basketball standings.
On a broader perspective, among the more than 1,000 members of the NCAA at all levels, only five basketball programs are ranked in the top 10 in men’s and women’s basketball this week.
NCAA Division I members Duke and Notre Dame and NCAA Division III members Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Amherst are the only other programs in all of NCAA basketball that can boast top 10 men’s and top 10 women’s teams this week.
The regular season will conclude for Tech this week with a pair of doubleheaders.
Arkansas Tech will visit Harding University for a twin bill at Rhodes Field House in Searcy on Thursday, Feb. 24.

The Golden Suns and the Wonder Boys will conclude their 2010-11 regular seasons by hosting Ouachita Baptist University for a doubleheader at 4 p.m. (women) and 6 p.m. (men) on Saturday, Feb. 26.
Admission to Tucker Coliseum will be free with a valid Tech identification card. The ticket office will open at 3 p.m. Saturday.
