Arkansas Tech has launched a new advertising effort aimed at promoting the Accelerated Degree Program at Arkansas Tech. The marketing materials showcase the Accelerated Degree Program and how the program can benefit those who wish to complete their degree but are unable to attend classes in a traditional setting.
University officials say the Accelerated Degree Program is designed primarily for adult students and offers the curriculum for the Bachelor of Professional Studies Degree utilizing an innovative fast-track degree-completion format, including an opportunity to earn credit for prior learning.
The Bachelor of Professional Studies Degree was established in 2004 and is designed to prepare students for entry or advancement in government, nonprofit, corporate or industrial careers. To complete the degree, students must have a minimum of 124 hours, and 40 of those hours must be upper division coursework.
For students in the program, classes will be offered in a variety of methods including online courses, mini-terms, blended coursework and residential weekend sessions conducted at Lake Point Conference Center. Students in the ADP program have the opportunity to receive up to 12 hours of upper division credit for documented prior learning.
Dr. Mary Ann Rollans, dean of the college of professional studies stated, “Arkansas Tech University is constantly on the forefront of initiatives which address economic needs of the community, the state and the region. There are approximately 400,000 working age adults (18-64) in the state who have completed some college but have no degree. This is the primary audience that our marketing efforts are currently targeting. This degree appeals to professionals who have full-time careers or family obligations and are unable to attend traditional classes offered on-campus. These individuals face geographic and financial barriers in completing a degree through traditional classroom delivery. This accelerated track, through online delivery, specialized advising, technical assistance and credit for prior learning, provides increased opportunities for individuals to complete a baccalaureate degree who may not have otherwise considered the possibility.”
