Shipp Joins Tech Football Coaching Staff

Kyle Shipp, who owns two degrees and three years of playing experience at Arkansas Tech University, has returned to his alma mater as a full-time member of the Wonder Boys football program coaching staff.

Shipp (photographed) was selected by Steve Mullins, director of athletics and head football coach at Arkansas Tech, to fill the vacancy created when Garren Rockwell resigned to accept an assistant coaching position at Waxahachie High School in Texas.

Shipp will coach wide receivers in his new role at Arkansas Tech. He spent the last two years as a graduate assistant coach at Arkansas State University.

“Kyle is a young man that is part of our Tech family,” said Mullins in a news release from the Arkansas Tech Athletics Department. “He played here, coached here and knows the ins-and-outs of our program,” Mullins said. “I am excited he has returned to Russellville.”

A product of Morrilton High School, Shipp earned three letters as a wide receiver for the Arkansas Tech football program from 2003-05. He was a member of the 2004 Wonder Boys squad that became the first football team from Arkansas to ever host and the first to ever win an NCAA Division II Playoffs game.

Shipp remained with the Arkansas Tech football program as a student assistant coach in 2006 and as a graduate assistant coach in 2007 and 2008.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science (2007) and a Master of Science degree in college student personnel (2009) from Arkansas Tech.
