The Golden Suns have five regular season games remaining and are one-half game in front of both Southwestern Oklahoma State and East Central. Arkansas Tech defeated Henderson State 67-49 in Russellville on Jan. 12. Tech has won 13 consecutive women’s basketball games against Henderson State and the Suns are 62-10 all-time against the Lady Reddies. About the Lady Reddies: Henderson State has lost its last four games, including a 76-69 overtime setback at Harding on Thursday. The Lady Reddies are second in the GAC in rebound margin (+4.2 per game). Only Arkansas Tech (+8.0 rebounds per game) has done a better job on the glass this season among GAC members. HSU senior forward Destiny Smith ranks second in the conference and 11th in NCAA Division II in rebounding (11.0 per game). Smith leads the GAC in field goal percentage (.590). The Wonder Boys have held their opponents below 60 points in all three of the victories during their current winning streak. It marks the first time since January 2009 and just the second time during the program’s NCAA Division II era (1995-96 to present) that Arkansas Tech’s men have held three consecutive conference opponents below 60 points. The Wonder Boys defeated Henderson State 75-63 on Jan. 12. Tech held a 50-31 rebounding edge in the win and senior guard Willie Kirkland notched 26 points and nine rebounds. About the Reddies: Henderson State handed Harding its first home men’s basketball loss this season on Thursday night when the Reddies topped the Bisons 70-68 in Searcy. The loss dropped Harding into a first-place tie in the GAC standings with Arkansas Tech. Junior guard Melvin Haynes led the Reddies to victory with 20 points. Henderson State head coach Doug Nichols was assistant coach at Arkansas Tech during the 2010-11 season and is now in his second year leading the Reddies.
