Wonder Boys Continue Move Up Standings

Game One: Arkansas Tech 16, NWOSU 2 The top four spots in the Arkansas Tech batting order accounted for 14 runs batted in during a 16-2 Wonder Boys’ victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State in Monday’s first game. Mark Vaughn was 4-for-5 with four RBIs, Patrick Castleberry finished 1-for-4 with four RBIs, Bryan Heward went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and Kris Ayers was 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Heward and Ayers both hit a home run. Cody Jones (7-2) pitched a complete game for Arkansas Tech. He allowed two runs on 10 hits over seven innings. NWOSU starter Christian Lafontan (1-4) took the loss. He was charged with nine runs on four hits in four and two-thirds innings. Lafontan issued five walks and hit four batters. Game Two: Arkansas Tech 3, NWOSU 2 Marcus Wilson’s walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning allowed Arkansas Tech to complete the series sweep with a 3-2 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State in the nightcap on Monday. Wilson’s single to left field on a 2-0 pitch allowed Heward to come home with the winning run. Randy Vallejo (2-1) pitched one inning in relief and earned the win on the mound. He retired the Rangers in order in the top of the 10th inning. Arkansas Tech starter Rafiel Johnson received no decision after limiting NWOSU to two runs on five hits in six innings. Ryan Vruggink provided the Wonder Boys with three scoreless innings of relief. Chase Randall (1-1) took the loss. He pitched two and two-thirds innings for the Rangers before allowing Wilson’s game-winning hit.  ]]>
