Approximately 200 students representing seven high schools will attend an Oktoberfest celebration of German culture at Arkansas Tech University on Friday, Oct. 9.
Students from Cabot High School, Lake Hamilton High School, Lincoln High School, Little Rock Central High School, Little Rock Parkview High School, Maumelle High School and Prairie Grove High School will interact with Arkansas Tech students from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in Dean Hall and at Hindsman Tower.
Gabriele Haulmark, visiting lecturer of German at Arkansas Tech, said the event will “provide high school students with the opportunity to learn about German speaking countries, the German classes here at Arkansas Tech and to show the students that learning German is easy and fun.”
Haulmark said the focus of the 2015 Oktoberfest event at Arkansas Tech will be on the 25th anniversary of German reunification, which occurred on Oct. 3, 1990.
High school students attending the Oktoberfest event will go through a series of stations. Topics and activities will include Berlin Wall craft, German computer games, a presentation concerning the fall of the Berlin Wall and German reunification and a German game named mehlschneiden. The visiting students will eat a German-themed meal at Chambers Cafeteria.
