Dr. Charles Desnoyers, professor of history at La Salle University, will be the guest speaker for the fifth annual David W. Krueger Lecture at Arkansas Tech University.
Desnoyers will offer a lecture entitled “The ‘Harmonious Society’ and its Discontents: China in 2015” at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, in the Doc Bryan Student Services Center Lecture Hall. A reception will follow at 7 p.m.
The event, which is sponsored by the Arkansas Tech College of Arts and Humanities, the Arkansas Tech Department of History and Political Science and the Arkansas Tech Foundation, will be free and open to the public.
The David W. Krueger Lecture was created in 2011 in honor of the long-time faculty member. Krueger taught history at Arkansas Tech from 1960-2010 and retired at the rank of associate professor. He was named professor emeritus of history by the Arkansas Tech Board of Trustees in March 2015.
Desnoyers (photographed) is a scholar in Chinese history, with specialization in diplomatic, political, cultural and intellectual issues during the period from 1860-95.
He is also versed in modern Chinese issues, including the rise of communism and ongoing evolutions in the nation’s economy and culture.
Desnoyers holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Villanova University as well as a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Temple University.
The David W. Krueger Lecture is possible because of the generosity of an anonymous donor to the Arkansas Tech College of Arts and Humanities through the Arkansas Tech Foundation.
