Michael V. Hutchison has been selected to serve as vice president for advancement at Arkansas Tech University.
Hutchison will oversee the university’s fund-raising and alumni relations programs, serve as executive vice president of the Arkansas Tech Foundation and act as liaison with the Arkansas Tech Alumni Association. He will begin his duties on March 1, 2016.
“Mr. Hutchison has a proven track record of connecting philanthropic individuals and organizations with worthy causes in higher education,” said Dr. Robin E. Bowen, Arkansas Tech president. “We believe that he will take our advancement programs to the next level of excellence. It is an important and meaningful pursuit. Securing private sources of funding provides our students with resources and opportunities that might not otherwise be available.”
Hutchison has served as vice president for institutional advancement at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., since 2012. During that time, Millsaps established new institutional records for annual giving to the college. Over a span of two years, the number of alumni donors increased by 33 percent.
Hutchison previously served as associate vice president for development at Hendrix College (2007-12), director of major and planned gifts at Texas A&M-Commerce (2005-07) and in a variety of roles at Austin College (1998-2005), including director of major and planned gifts, director of alumni and athletic advancement and assistant director of annual giving.
A 1987 graduate of McMurry College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, Hutchison began his career in higher education by serving his alma mater as director of church relations from 1987-90. He attained a Master of Education degree in educational administration from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1994.
Hutchison has served in several volunteer leadership capacities on behalf of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), including Arkansas representative on the CASE IV District Board.
Hutchison will succeed Patrick Hundley, who came to Arkansas Tech for an interim appointment as vice president for advancement in October 2015.
Susie Nicholson, vice president for student services and university relations, served as chair for the vice president for advancement search committee.
Also serving on the committee were Dr. Hanna Norton, dean of the College of eTech, assistant vice president for academic affairs and professor of journalism; Dr. Sean Huss, associate professor of sociology and member of the faculty senate at Arkansas Tech; Laurie Bibler, member of the Arkansas Tech Foundation Board of Directors; C. Tim White, executive vice president at Brown and Brown Insurance and community representative; Bryan Fisher, director of athletic relations; and Suede Graham, senior vocal music education student from Clarksville.
