Arkansas Tech University alumna Summer Laffoon has been selected as a recipient of the 2016 National Science Foundation graduate research fellowship.
Laffoon graduated with a chemistry degree from Arkansas Tech, and she is currently in graduate school at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
The research fellowship will provide a three-year annual stipend and will assist in tuition expenses. Over the three years, the fellowship is valued at more than $135,000.
In all, more than 17,000 individuals applied for the 2016 fellowships through the National Science Foundation.
At Arkansas Tech, Laffoon was recipient of the CRC freshmen chemistry achievement award and the David R. Matayo award for being the outstanding senior chemistry student.
