Arkansas Tech University’s Jalissa Gum was selected Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division II national pitcher of the week on Wednesday, April 13.
A right-handed junior from Red Rock, Okla., Gum pitched two shutouts against Southern Arkansas University at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville last weekend.
Gum tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out 14 Lady Muleriders over seven innings, in a 2-0 Golden Suns’ victory on Friday. She drove in both of the game’s runs with a triple in the bottom of the third inning.
On Saturday, Gum struck out 10 Lady Muleriders in a 1-0 Tech win.
With the pair of shutouts, Gum extended her scoreless innings streak to 21 and two-thirds. Southern Arkansas, ranked No. 23 in the nation at the time, had not been shut out this season before Gum’s two gems.
The nationally seventh-ranked Golden Suns (39-6 overall, 29-5 GAC) will visit Southwestern Oklahoma State University for a four-game GAC series in Weatherford, Okla., on Friday, April 15, and Saturday, April 16.
