Arkansas Tech University’s Jalissa Gum has earned a weekly softball award from the Great American Conference for a third consecutive week.
Gum was named GAC pitcher of the week on Monday, April 18. In all, it marks the fifth time that she has received a GAC weekly honor during the 2016 season.
A right-handed junior from Red Rock, Okla., Gum was 2-0 with a save last week in the circle. She allowed just one run, which was unearned, on six hits in 12 and two-thirds innings of work against Harding University and Southwestern Oklahoma State University. For the week, Gum struck out 25 batters.
Gum has not allowed an earned run in her last 34 and one-third innings of work. For the season, she is 17-1 with a 0.69 earned run average. She ranks among the top eight in NCAA Division II in ERA this season.
The Golden Suns (41-6 overall, 31-5 GAC) will have an opportunity to establish a new school record for softball victories in a season and clinch their first regular season conference championship in softball since 2011 when they host Northwestern Oklahoma State University for a four-game GAC series at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville on Friday, April 22, and Saturday, April 23.
First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday. Admission will be free. Radio station KCAB 97.1 FM/980 AM and www.arkansastechsports.com will have live coverage.
