The Arkansas Tech University Department of Public Safety is accepting applications from individuals who wish to participate in the 2017 ATU Public Safety Students Academy.
The four-week program offers students an opportunity to learn about various functions of the Department of Public Safety, including patrol, traffic stops, crime scene processing, criminal investigations and alcohol and drug investigations.
“Academy members will experience hands-on activities and participate in reality-based scenarios based on real-world police encounters,” said Detective Ashley Phillips of the ATU Department of Public Safety.
The academy will meet from 6-8:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning on Feb. 23 and continuing weekly through March 16 in Dr. Robert Charles Brown and Jill Lestage Brown Hall room 435.
Students interested in applying for the ATU Public Safety Students Academy must demonstrate a satisfactory conduct history and send an e-mail to aphillips21@atu.edu with the following information:

- Phone number
- Brief narrative explaining why the individual should be selected for the academy
Deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Those chosen as participants will be notified by e-mail on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
