Members of the Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus 2016-17 Chancellor’s Leadership Cabinet traveled to the Arkansas State Capitol last week where they were given a tour and witnessed the legislative process.
ATU Ozark Health Information Technology student Terra Akers of Fort Smith said she is grateful for the experience.
“I feel very blessed to have received the opportunity to go on a trip like this,” Akers said. “These types of trips are very important for students, especially for members of the CLC, because it allows us to see firsthand how leaders in our state all work together.”
Students were greeted by Senator Gary Stubblefield-District 6, Representative Sarah Capp-District 82, Deputy Chief of Staff Bill Gossage, Representative Jon Eubanks-District 74 and Representative Coleman-District 81 upon arrival at the Capitol.
After a tour of the building, the students watched over the 1:30 p.m. legislative session of the House of Representatives.
“Having witnessed in person all of the work that goes into laws, amendments, policies and major decisions for our state, I have a better appreciation for the people who serve ATU Ozark and for the leaders who work for the citizens of Arkansas,” Akers said. “This trip was very educational and an awesome personal experience that shed major light on what a leader means and what they do.”
