Welcome Week 2017 Schedule Announced

Arkansas Tech University students will begin the 2017-18 academic year with a series of Go Bold Welcome Week events designed to prepare them for academic and personal success.

Events on Saturday, Aug. 19, and Sunday, Aug. 20, are reserved for new ATU students. Returning ATU students are encouraged to attend the Involvement Fair on Monday, Aug. 21, and all subsequent Welcome Week activities.

Throughout the week, students are encouraged to share their experiences on social media using the hashtag #atuwelcome.

Saturday, Aug. 19

Residence Hall New Student Move-In
Various Times, Residence Halls
Review assignment notification information to identify proper move-in time.

Orientation Check-In
Parent and Family Welcome
8 a.m.-2 p.m., W.O. Young Ballroom
New students and transfer students will receive all of their essentials for orientation, while parents and family members will learn about services and resources offered on campus. 

Lunch
10:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Chambers Cafeteria
Family lunch special is $6.50 per person. Students utilizing a meal plan may begin using their card swipes.

Last Minute Goodbyes
3 p.m., Residence Halls

Mandatory Floor Meetings
3:30-5 p.m., Residence Halls
Resident assistants teach new students about their building and their role in a residence hall community. Location for meetings will be posted on each floor.

Dinner
5-7 p.m., Chambers Cafeteria

Building Social
7-7:45 p.m., Residence Halls
Dessert will be served in the lobby or courtyard of each residence hall for new students, residence life staff members and orientation leaders.

Playfair
8 p.m., Tucker Coliseum
Wear tennis shoes and be prepared to meet many new friends at what is promised to be an enthusiastic and energetic experience.

Fourth Meal
9:30 p.m.-Midnight, Chambers Cafeteria
Great food from some of Russellville’s favorite restaurants…everything from tacos to burgers to pizza to donuts, and so much more. 

Sunday, Aug. 20

Tech the Day Away
1-4 p.m., Hindsman Tower Quad
Inflatable games, an adventure zone, carnival-style snacks and a photo booth. 

Dinner
5-7 p.m., Chambers Cafeteria

Mandatory Floor Meetings
7 or 9 p.m., Residence Halls

Hypnotist
8 and 10 p.m., Witherspoon Auditorium
Spidey, international hypnotist, will entertain; orientation leaders will notify new students as to which performance they are scheduled to attend.

Monday, Aug. 21

Involvement Fair
6-8 p.m., Hindsman Tower Quad
Learn about campus organizations and community entities while enjoying free food and a chance to win more than $2,500 in prizes. This is one of the largest events on campus each year. 

Outdoor Movie: “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2”
9:30-11:30 p.m., Crabaugh Hall Lawn
Drinks and popcorn provided; bring a blanket for seating.

Tuesday, Aug. 22

ATU Student Employment Fair

Designed to provide new and returning students with information about part-time, on-campus employment. ATU student identification card is required. 

Dinner and Pep Rally
5-6 p.m., Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field
Learn the cheers, songs and traditions that will make you a true Wonder Boy or Golden Sun.

Green and Gold Football Scrimmage
6 p.m., Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field
Get a first look at the 2017 Wonder Boys as they prepare for their 11-game Great American Conference schedule.

On Track Licensing Drive
8-10 p.m., All Residence Halls
Music, snacks and giveaways as resident assistants meet their students in residence hall lobbies and get them licensed for On Track 2017-18. 

Wednesday, Aug. 23

T-Shirt Trade
11 a.m.-1 p.m., Baswell Techionery
Trade a gently worn shirt from a high school or another university for a one-of-a-kind Arkansas Tech T-shirt, which will also be available for purchase for $1. All clothing and funds will be donated to charity.

RSO Event Night
5-8 p.m., Various Locations
Learn more about how to join and be active in registered student organizations. 

Campus Recreation Watermelon Fest
8-10 p.m., Campus Recreation Fields
Highlights will include the sixth annual seed spitting competition, along with water baseball, flag football, Ultimate Frisbee, disc golf and more.

Thursday, Aug. 24

Meet the Greeks
6:30-8 p.m., Caraway Hall Lawn
Learn more about fraternities and sororities at Arkansas Tech.

Friday, Aug. 25

Tech IN Kickoff Event
5-8 p.m., Doc Bryan Courtyard
Food, fellowship, dancing and prizes will help introduce students to programs in diversity and inclusion at Tech.

Black Light Party
9 p.m.-Midnight, W.O. Young Ballroom
The first 500 students will enjoy free T-shirts and a DJ.

Saturday, Aug. 26

Music Downtown at Sundown
7:30 p.m., Depot Park, Russellville Downtown
Live music featuring The Flat Five and Leah and the Mojo Doctors.

Fight On Music Festival
9 p.m., Tucker Coliseum
Welcome Week 2017 comes to an end with a concert featuring The Turnpike Troubadours. Admission is free with a valid Arkansas Tech identification card. Each Tech student is permitted to bring one non-university guest to the concert.
