Golden Suns Take Two GAC Weekly Honors

Arkansas Tech University’s Lexie Johnston and Amanda Milnick were among the honorees on Tuesday when the Great American Conference announced its first weekly volleyball awards of the 2017 season.

Johnston earned the GAC defensive player the week commendation, while Milnick was named GAC setter of the week.

The Golden Suns went 4-0 at the season-opening Washburn Invitational in Topeka, Kan., on Friday and Saturday.

A freshman from Nixa, Mo., Johnston (photographed, left) had 18 total blocks during the event. She also notched 38 kills and had a team-best .326 hitting percentage in Topeka.

Milnick (photographed, right) is a sophomore from Tahlequah, Okla. She had two double-doubles during the Washburn Invitational and was named the most valuable player at the classic. Milnick totaled 137 assists, 45 digs, 13 total blocks and four service aces during the first four matches of 2017.

Arkansas Tech, now 6-0, will compete in the Townplace Suites Invitational at Joplin, Mo., on Friday, Sept. 8, and Saturday, Sept. 9.

The Golden Suns will face Chadron State College at 6 p.m. Friday, Maryville University at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Missouri Southern State University at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. All three matches will be played on the MSSU campus at Robert Ellis Young Gymnasium.
