Members of the Arkansas Tech University community will have the opportunity to help provide a Thanksgiving meal to those in need this Friday.
The Arkansas Tech chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary will sponsor Helping Halls, a food drive competition between campus residence halls, this Thanksgiving season.
The annual food collection initiative encourages those living in the residence halls and members of the campus community to assist the Salvation Army in its efforts to provide holiday meals to those in the River Valley by donating a meal kit.
Each 10-item meal kit costs approximately $14 and includes the staples of a traditional Thanksgiving meal:
- Turkey gravy
- Sweet potatoes
- Green beans
- Corn
- Cranberries
- Pie filling
- Stuffing mix
- Mashed potatoes mix
- Marshmallows
- Pie crust
Those wishing to take part are asked to drop off kits between 10 a.m. and noon on Friday in the Young Ballroom. Completed kits should be placed in two grocery sacks and tied in a knot.
From there, representatives from the National Residence Hall Honorary at Arkansas Tech will deliver the kits to the Salvation Army office in Russellville. The kits will be paired with a turkey or ham and given to families in need of assistance for Thanksgiving 2017.
