Two Arkansas Tech University students are among the first recipients of the Homegrown by Heroes Scholarship from Farm Credit and the Arkansas Agriculture Department.
Brady McPherson, member of the Army National Guard and student at ATU, and Rachel Robertson, student at ATU-Ozark Campus and daughter of a U.S. Air Force veteran, both earned a $1,000 scholarship for the fall 2018 semester.
Homegrown by Heroes is a scholarship program that assists military veterans, current military personnel and their dependents who are pursuing a degree in agriculture or an agriculture-related field.
“We are proud to partner with Farm Credit, who generously provided the funding for the new Homegrown by Heroes academic scholarships,” said Wes Ward, secretary of Arkansas Agriculture. “It is an honor to award these scholarships to help fund the education of these men and women, and their families, who have served our country in the military.”
Selection for the scholarship is based upon academic achievement, community involvement, extracurricular activities, financial need and family circumstances.
The scholarship program is part of a larger effort that assists farmer veterans market their locally sourced agricultural products by labeling them as veteran produced.
