Norton to Assist With Arkansas Tech CETL

Dr. Hanna E. Norton has been appointed assistant director of the Arkansas Tech University Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL).

She will assist Dr. Robin Lasey, director of the ATU CETL, in providing their fellow ATU faculty members with access to teaching resources, web-based training subscriptions and professional development activities.

According to its mission statement, the Arkansas Tech CETL “develops an inclusive environment that promotes excellence in teaching and learning by encouraging open dialogue and active sharing of teaching practices and learning strategies through sustained university development activities.”

A member of the ATU faculty since 2001, Norton was the inaugural dean of the ATU College of eTech from July 1, 2015, through June 30, 2018, at which point she made the decision to return to full-time teaching in her role as professor of journalism in the ATU Department of Communication and Journalism.

Norton earned the Arkansas Tech Faculty Award of Excellence in the teaching category in 2009. In 2013, she was voted outstanding student organization advisor for her work with the institution’s Public Relations Student Society of America chapter.

She has also been recognized by the Arkansas Blackboard Users Group for her acumen in developing web-based academic courses and the National Academic Advising Association for her work in assisting students.

An alumna of the University of Georgia, Norton has served the ATU community as faculty senate chair and head of the Department of Communication and Journalism. She holds membership on the ATU Higher Learning Commission 2020 steering committee.

Norton graduated from the Leadership Russellville program offered by the Russellville Area Chamber of Commerce in 2015 and the Leadership Tech program as a member of the inaugural cohort in 2018.
