Debbie Edgin has been a staple in the Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus family for 20 years. She joined the ATU-Ozark family in July 1998 in the bookstore. She formerly worked in the office at Wiederkehr’s restaurant for 24 years.
She is a 1974 graduate of Ark Valley Vo-Tech School in Business. She is originally from Wichita Kansas but grew up in Ozark.
During her time at the university, Debbie worked in numerous roles including purchasing, accounts payable, the bookstore, receptionist and ended the last ten years in Student Services. “She is the hub of ATU-Ozark and never meets a stranger,” said Beverly Nehus, Assistant to the Chancellor.
Debbie is known for her love of the Denver Broncos and Halloween and each year it is a treat to see what costume she will present. Debbie is also an avid fan of the Ozark Hillbillies. Her son and nephews have all worn the Ozark Hillbilly jerseys.
Debbie’s son, Nathan, and wife Jessi, both Arkansas Tech University graduates, are expecting their first child, Nash, in December 2018, so Debbie is looking forward to not necessarily retiring, but switching positions from Student Services to full-time grandmother.
While not in the office, Debbie and her sister, Sandra, are avid travelers. In fact, the duo has traveled to 48 out of 50 states in the U.S. Upon retirement they plan to conquer the last two states.
“Over the path of 20 years, Debbie has touched the lives of many students, faculty, and staff and she will be missed immensely,” added Beverly.
Richard Harris, Chief Student officer believes Debbie set the standard on the Office of Student Services customer service.
“It’s often said that the first impression is the most important. I knew that students visiting our office would have a good first impression because Debbie was often the first person they met when visiting our campus for the first time. Her professionalism and team-first attitude are the things I will miss most about her. I know I speak for her co-workers and students when I say that she will be missed.”
Debbie will officially retire January 2, 2019.
The ATU-Ozark family thanks Debbie for her years of service, laughter, and dedication to ATU-Ozark.
