Eleven students and one full-time staff member from Arkansas Tech University explored the benefits of servant leadership during spring break 2019.
The 2019 ATU Alternative Spring Break trip to New Orleans included service projects at Animal Rescue New Orleans, one of two no-kill animal shelters in Louisiana, and Garden on Mars, an urban garden project that produces fresh food and flowers on vacant lots in the Crescent City.
Tech students also participated in a bayou cleanout that helped remove an invasive plant and preserve the native ecosystem as well as construction on a home that was damaged by electrical fire and flooding during a four-month span.

They were accompanied and mentored by Kara Johnson, coordinator of civic engagement in the ATU Department of Campus Life, and Alexis Smith, graduate assistant in the ATU Department of Campus Life.
