Grand Slam Gets Gorillas Past ATU

John Oliver’s fifth-inning grand slam propelled Pittsburg State University to a 9-3 non-conference baseball win over Arkansas Tech University at Arvest Ballpark in Springdale on Tuesday.

Oliver’s shot over the left-field fence broke a 3-3 tie and gave the Gorillas (21-17) the lead for good. He finished with five runs batted in.

Dylan McDearmon drove in all three of the Wonder Boys’ runs.

Pitt State relief pitcher Kory Haught (1-1) pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win on the mound.

ATU starter Layton Robinson (3-4) was charged with seven runs on six hits in five innings.

The Wonder Boys (27-16) will return to action with a Great American Conference doubleheader at the University of Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday, April 20.
