New Facility Made Possible Through Philanthropy
This spring, Arkansas Tech opened its first multi-sports complex. Located north of Tech Field, which houses Wonder Boys baseball. The facility includes indoor practice space for baseball, tennis and golf, as well as locker space and offices for the baseball program. Also included are a training room and a conference room.
“One of the primary benefits of this structure will be providing a climate-controlled area for our spring sports teams to practice,” said ATU President, Dr. Robin Bowen, at a ground-breaking ceremony held on Mar. 16, 2016. “By providing those student-athletes and coaches with a facility of this caliber, they will be prepared to help us maintain our position as the top overall athletics program in the Great American Conference.”
It is anticipated that additional intercollegiate athletics programs at Tech and students from the Department of Health and Physical Education will also utilize the facility.
“The Multi-Sport will be one of the finest in Division II,” said Steve Mullins, director of athletics. “[It is] a tremendous complex that will benefit Softball, Baseball, Tennis, and both Golf teams. It will become a point of pride that helps our athletes compete at the highest level and a huge asset in recruiting and retaining student-athletes at Tech.”
Funding for the $3.5 million complex was provided by private donations and existing university funds.
