In their regularly scheduled meeting on December 13, 2018, the ATU Board of Trustees reviewed a memorandum from Brian Lasey, director of physical plant at ATU, in which he reported that the architect selection committee recommended Crafton Tull based upon its experience with roadways, landscaping and coordination with the Arkansas Department of Transportation that stood out amongst the other firms.

The scope of the proposed project includes a new campus entrance near Tucker Coliseum, enhanced campus wayfinding and drainage improvements at the intersection of North Arkansas Avenue and West O Street.

Positive steps were taken in May 2018 when the Trustees approved filing a request with the Arkansas Department of Transportation to install and fund a stop light at a proposed new ATU campus entrance off North Arkansas Avenue in Russellville. The new entrance will allow for safer pedestrian traffic through the center of campus.

The proposed new entrance to the Russellville campus is part of the campus master plan (approved by the Board of Trustees in October 2017), which also includes a new student union and recreation center; a new performing arts center; a new academic building for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs; and student housing. The master plan contains short-term priorities and long­term changes to facilities for each of the ATU campuses over the next 20 years.
