Arkansas Tech University handed Harding University its first home shutout loss in Great American Conference volleyball in almost three years on Tuesday night.
The Golden Suns defeated the Lady Bisons 25-17, 25-23, 30-28 at Rhodes-Reaves Field House in Searcy. It was the first league match of 2019 for both teams.
Allie Anderson had 12 kills, Brianna Merkel made 28 assists and Madison Grantham contributed 22 digs to lead the way for Arkansas Tech.
Harding’s most recent home shutout GAC loss before Tuesday was a setback against the Golden Suns on Sept. 20, 2016.
Arkansas Tech (4-5 overall, 1-0 GAC) will carry a three-match winning streak into the University of Southern Indiana Invitational in Evansville, Ind., on Friday, Sept. 20, and Saturday, Sept. 21. The Golden Suns are scheduled to play four matches over a span of two days.
ATU will make its 2019 home volleyball debut when it welcomes Southern Arkansas University to Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Tuesday, Sept. 24. First serve is booked for 6 p.m. Admission will be free.
