Musicians in the Arkansas Tech University Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the ATU Symphonic Band will perform a concert on Sunday, Sept. 29.
The performance, entitled “Contemporaries,” will begin at 2:30 p.m. in Witherspoon Auditorium, 407 West Q Street in Russellville. Admission will be free and open to the public.
The ATU Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Tech’s premier instrumental ensemble, will offer its interpretation of four pieces: “A Mother of a Revolution” by Omar Thomas; “Variations on the Porazzi Theme of Wagner” by Alfred Reed; “Into the Silent Land” by Steve Danyew; and “Lost Vegas” by Michael Daugherty.
Dr. David J. Eshelman, professor of communication at ATU, will serve as narrator on “Into the Silent Land.”
Dr. Daniel A. Belongia, professor of music and director of bands, serves as conductor for the ATU Symphonic Wind Ensemble.
The ATU Symphonic Band will perform “Chester” by William Shumann, “Dusk” by Steven Bryant and “Lauds” by Ron Nelson.
Conducted by Dr. Jim Daughters, associate director of bands, the ATU Symphonic Band is comprised primarily of music majors. The group is open to students of all majors by audition.
