Lia M. Uribe, associate professor of music and undergraduate studies director for the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, will offer the 2019 Arkansas Tech University Hispanic Heritage Month keynote address on Monday, Oct. 7.
Uribe will speak at 7 p.m. in Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center room 300A. The public is invited to attend this free event.
A native of Cali, Colombia, Uribe earned her bachelor’s degree in bassoon performance from Universidad Nacional de Colombia. She obtained graduate degrees at the University of Kansas and the University of Arkansas and has completed an artist residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Alberta, Canada.
Uribe is principal bassoonist for the Symphony Orchestra of Northwest Arkansas and the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra.
She served as a fellow for the 2017 National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC) Leadership Institute and was selected to participate in the 2019 NALAC Advocacy Leadership Institute.
Her experiences with NALAC have exposed her to information about arts advocacy and sharping arts policy. She chairs a diversity, equity and inclusiveness initiative for the University of Arkansas Department of Music and is a member of the Walton Arts Center Board of Directors.
