Five Southeastern Oklahoma State University players reached double figures in scoring Saturday afternoon and the Savage Storm maintained sole possession of first place in the Great American Conference men’s basketball standings with a 100-68 victory over Arkansas Tech University at Bloomer Sullivan Arena in Durant, Okla.
The Savage Storm (17-4 overall, 11-3 GAC) scored the first seven points and never relinquished the lead. It was 43-33 at halftime, and a 10-0 Southeastern run early in the second half extended the advantage to 57-40 with 14:52 remaining.
The margin remained 12 points or greater the rest of the way as the Savage Storm won its 16th consecutive home game and avenged a 74-70 loss at Arkansas Tech on Jan. 2.
“We ran out of gas,” said Chad Kline, ATU head coach. “We had a good game plan, and I thought we competed our tails off for 25 or 30 minutes and gave ourselves a chance to win. Those last 10 minutes spiraled down quickly on us. We are a tired team, and we need to find a way to regroup.”
Kellen Manek scored a season-high 25 points for Southeastern. A’Torey Everett added 17 points for the Savage Storm.
R.J. Glasper had a team-high 18 points for Arkansas Tech. Ke’Lyn Adams contributed 15 points and Kevin McNeal chipped in 12 points.
The Wonder Boys (11-9, 7-7) will play their third consecutive road game Thursday, Feb. 6, when they travel to Vining Arena in Arkadelphia for a GAC match-up with Ouachita Baptist University. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
