The men of Arkansas Tech University are invited to confront gender stereotypes and expectations by participating in a Walk a Mile in Her Shoes educational event on Monday, March 8.
High-heeled shoes will be available for checkout from the ATU Student Activities Board office in Doc Bryan Student Services Center room 171 from 1-3 p.m.
Participants will walk a designated course and those who document their experience on social media will be eligible for prizes.
Frank Baird, a licensed therapist and counselor from California, created Walk a Mile in Her Shoes in 2001.
“What started out as a small group of men daring to totter around a park has grown to become a worldwide movement with tens of thousands of men raising millions of dollars for local rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters and other sexualized violence education, prevention and remediation programs,” reads a portion of the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes national website.
The ATU Office of Title IX is co-sponsoring the walk at Arkansas Tech.
The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event on March 8 is one in a series of programs sponsored by the ATU Department of Diversity and Inclusion in observance of National Women’s History Month 2021.
