Rodolfo Quilantán, consul of Mexico, visited Arkansas Tech University on Monday, April 11.
Head of post for the Mexican Consulate in Little Rock, Quilantán met with ATU faculty, staff and students at Chambers Cafeteria West Dining Room. The group discussed issues related to Hispanic culture, language and education.
Quilantán has played a key role in a partnership between the Mexican Consulate in Little Rock and ATU since 2015. Together, the two entities have created scholarship opportunities for Arkansas Tech students who are Mexican or of Mexican origin through the IME Becas program.
Francisco Rodriguez, staff member for the Mexican Consulate in Little Rock, joined Quilantán for his visit to Arkansas Tech.
As of fall 2021, there are 939 Arkansas Tech students who self-report as Hispanic. That is a 92 percent increase over one decade earlier, when the Hispanic student population at ATU was 489 students.
