The Arkansas Tech University Health and Wellness Center and the Arkansas chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) will offer a safeTALK training opportunity on Monday, Aug. 8.
According to the AFSP, safeTALK is a “half-day alertness training that prepares anyone 15 or older, regardless of prior experience or training, to become a suicide-alert helper.”
The Aug. 8 session at ATU will take place from 1-4:30 p.m. in Rothwell Hall room 317, 106 West O Street in Russellville. The training is free and open to the public.
Registration is open at https://atusafetalk2.attendease.com.
Participants will become equipped to notice and respond to situations where suicide thoughts might be present, recognize that invitations for help are often overlooked and move beyond the common tendency to miss, dismiss and avoid suicide.
Since its development in 2006, safeTALK has been used in more than 20 countries around the world.
