All junior high and high school band students are invited to join “Arkansas’ Band of Distinction” for Arkansas Tech University Band Member for a Day 2022 on Saturday, Oct. 29.
Updated Information: In the case of rain, ATU Band Member for a Day participants should report to Tucker Coliseum for indoor rehearsal from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday. From 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., ATU Band Member for a Day participants will have lunch and engage in an academic fair in the perimeter hallway of Tucker Coliseum. Campus tours will be provided during that time if advisable based upon the weather. Further instructions for the remainder of the day will be delivered from ATU marching band leadership to ATU Band Member for a Day participants based upon the weather conditions.
If it is not raining, the event will begin with a 9-10:30 a.m. rehearsal at Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field. Visiting students should wear casual athletic attire that is appropriate for the weather.
From 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., ATU Band Member for a Day participants will be divided into three groups that will take part in each of the following activities, weather permitting:
*Lunch at Chambers Cafeteria (complimentary for the first 500 registrants courtesy of the ATU College of Arts and Humanities, the ATU Office of Admissions and the ATU Division of Academic Affairs)
*Campus tours
*An academic fair and tailgating games
After a half-hour to change into their band uniforms from 12:30-1 p.m., ATU Band Member for a Day participants will report to Nutt Residence Hall (1505 N. El Paso Ave. in Russellville) at 1 p.m., weather permitting.
From there, band members will participate in the traditional pre-game warm-up, march to the stadium and pre-game performances, weather permitting.
Kickoff for the football game between Arkansas Tech and Southwestern Oklahoma State University is scheduled for 2 p.m. Admission will be free for all ATU Band Member for a Day participants, who will sit in the stands with the Arkansas Tech band and perform on the field during halftime, weather permitting. It is anticipated the game will end at approximately 5 p.m.
The ATU marching band will offer a performance of its full halftime show following the completion of Saturday’s game, weather permitting.
