Arkansas Tech University ranked among the top three NCAA Division II athletics programs in the United States and Canada for community service during the fall 2022 semester.
Wonder Boys and Golden Suns donated 3,081 hours and supported 25 community organizations from July 1, 2022, through Dec. 31, 2022. It marks the seventh consecutive year ATU has finished among the top five in the NCAA Team Works Service Challenge, which is open to more than 300 NCAA Division II members.
One hundred percent of ATU student-athletes participated in community service projects during the 2022 NCAA Team Works Service Challenge.
ATU student-athletes’ service during the final six months of 2022 equated to an economic impact of $87,941 on the region served by Arkansas Tech.
“Our community and our student-athletes achieve continuous improvement together when we partner on service projects,” said Abby Davis, ATU director of athletics. “Giving back to the Arkansas River Valley is a fundamental aspect of our operations as an athletics department. The lessons learned through these volunteer efforts benefit our student-athletes in competition, in the classroom and in preparation for their careers following graduation. I could not be prouder of our Wonder Boys and Golden Suns, as well as our coaches and staff, for their annual commitment to excellence in community service.”
In all, NCAA student-athletes gave 218,594 hours of volunteer service during the fall 2022 competition. That translates to a $6.5 million impact on the communities served by NCAA member institutions.
Arkansas Tech finished first in the NCAA Team Works Service Challenge in 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2021-22.
