The Arkansas Tech University Concert Band and the ATU Symphonic Band will present a concert entitled “Myths, Songs and Legends” on Friday, March 3.
The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Witherspoon Auditorium, 407 West Q Street in Russellville. Admission will be free and open to the public.
The concert was originally scheduled for Thursday, March 2, but it was postponed 24 hours due to the threat of severe weather in the area.
The ATU Concert Band will play “Achilles’ Wrath” by Sean O’Laughlin, “Darklands March” by Randall Standridge and “Africata” by Quincy Hilliard.
Cadence Graves of Greenwood will serve as student conductor on “Darklands March.” Allison Spears of Van Buren will be student conductor for “Africata.”
The ATU Symphonic Band will perform Symphony No. 1 from “The Lord of the Rings” by Johan de Meij, “Second Suite in F for Military Band” by Gustav Holst, “Irish Tune from County Derry” by Percy Aldridge Grainger, “Shepherd’s Hey” by Grainger and “Until the Scars” by John Mackey.
Brendan Frazier of Denison, Texas, will appear as student conductor for “Shepherd’s Hey.”
The ATU Concert Band is a large ensemble dedicated to the non-music major population. The band performs two concerts per year. ATU Concert Band is open to all students in the university without a required audition. The ATU Symphonic Band is comprised primarily of music majors, but is open to students of all majors by audition. It offers two performances per semester. Both groups operate under the direction of Dr. Jonathan Nash, ATU assistant professor of music and associate director of bands.
