Tibor Hollman earned the first-place prize of $500 in the inaugural Arkansas Tech University College of Business and Economic Development High School Investment Challenge, which concluded with presentations at Doc Bryan Student Services Center Lecture Hall in Russellville on Thursday, April 13.
Hollman, a high school senior from Joshua, Texas, also won the individual title in the ATU High School Business Challenge on April 6. He plans on attending Arkansas Tech beginning in fall 2023.
Second place in the 2023 ATU High School Investment Challenge went to Harrison High School students Attalie Bardwell, Lauryn Tapley and Jacklyn Tapley. They won $250.
Contestants were judged on the net value of their simulated investments during the competition period and the synopsis of their strategies.
Of the 14 teams that entered the challenge, three were selected to present during the finals. Hollman and the Harrison team were joined in the final three by Scranton High School students Trinity Ezell, Kenji Lor and Amber Wynn.
The ATU High School Investment Challenge was sponsored by Centennial Bank, Taco Bell and the ATU School of Business.
The judging panel consisted of Shirley Washam, financial advisor at Centennial Bank; Dr. Shahed Chowdhury, assistant professor of finance in the ATU School of Business; Dr. Ahmed Elkassabgi, assistant professor of finance in the ATU School of Business; and Dr. Peng “Roc” Huang, professor of finance and economics in the ATU School of Business.
