Arkansas Tech University and the Office of the Fifth Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney welcomed approximately 50 local law enforcement representatives to Doc Bryan Student Services Center Lecture Hall for a professional development seminar on Tuesday, May 16.
The gathering focused on laws passed by the 94th General Assembly of Arkansas during its 2023 regular session. Leadership personnel from a variety of law enforcement agencies in Franklin, Johnson, Pope and Yell counties were in attendance.
Thomas Pennington, professor of legal studies in the ATU College of Business and Economic Development, provided the overview. Of the 890 laws passed by the 94th Arkansas General Assembly, the seminar focused on the 163 new laws that are most applicable to those who attended.
ATU has been involved in hosting a similar gathering for local law enforcement after each regular session of the Arkansas legislature since 1999.
